چکیده

REPORTS of preceding investigations (FRIEDE, 1959~2, 1961 c; FRIEDE and FLEMING, 1962) have contained detailed charts of the distribution of several enzymes in the brain. The purpose of this paper is to compare enzyme patterns with each other and to describe similarities and, particularly, differences of the patterns that were observed. The regional patterns in the brain of seven enzymes which are concerned with glucose metabolism were studied and compared. Most of the data were obtained from histochemical series from rhesus monkey and human brains. These were compared with tissue homogenate assays. The enzymes studied were cytochrome oxidasef succinic dehydrogenase, DPN-diaphorase, TPN-diaphorase, malic dehydrogenase glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, 6-phosphogluconic dehydrogenase and lactic dehydrogenase. In order to render this article more complete, some previously published data have been included.

A Comparison of Choltnesterase Distribution in the Cerebellum of Several Species* Reinhard

PREVIOUS efforts in this laboratory have been directed toward systematic mappings of oxidative enzyme activity in the brain. A comparison of the distribution patterns of enzymes involved in glycolysis, citric acid cycle, and hexose-monophosphate shunt revealed almost monotonous similarity both among enzymes and among species; differences were subtle and observed only upon careful scrutiny (FRIE...

Patterns of Amino Acid Biosynthesis from Labeled Glucose*

Glucose may be metabolized through the Embden-Myerhof glycolytic sequence to the threecarbon compounds, pyruvate and lactate. Alternatively, some of the glucose may be converted (a) to pentose via the hexose monophosphate shunt (1~) or (b) to serine and glycine by a series of reactions which probably branch from glycolysis at the level of phosphoglyceric acid (1, ~, 7, 8). The pyruvate and lact...
